I just had a little bit of nerd fun tonight, and I wanted to share, working my brain off another translation into Xurnese. I went for Bukameša's taunt to his judges :
Here's the result in (modern) Xurnese :"By killing me, you hope to stop me; but you will only end me. I am a movement that has extended sixty years and up and down Niormen, and you have control only over its last few days. Sharp as your blades are, they cannot cut the past. I have already happened."
The initial gerund was quite a challenge, but I think I got it right. To further taunt the judges, it is full of subjunctives (many "yey" appear). I opted to double "I am a movement" to give emphasis on that nice bit of lore of life being a movement. I've used inversions quite intensely, and I am quite satisfied with the very laconic ending "oraejú", that would make Lacedemonians (and ne-Duox) proud. I'm pretty confident with the morphology, especially for the verbs.Syu e jesaup rameyn, myes i tey denjidzimayc pel, i palači tasyeyc. With all that, I had to create a single word, piyzumex, for "past", from self created Axunashin peivi-soumax* "before-time". I also created (but really didn't have to) rosnel (from simple concatenation of ros-nel) for "land, country" as I feel Xurnese would avoid actual toponyms in very emotional speeches. Finally, I had to extend the meaning of tey "to cut" to give it a meaning of "to terminate, to finish", to contrast it with "to end", which gives a great parallel later with the cutting/termination of the past.
