I got stung by a wasp tonight.

It happened very late at night, after I had stayed up really long, when I was really really tired and was just about to go to bed and fall asleep.

Now, of course, I can't afford to fall asleep, because I need to stay awake so that I can carefully watch myself and see whether I develop signs of an anaphylactic shock or not, so that I can call an ambulance if that should happen.

So far, no such signs, but this is really annoying.

Have you never been stung by a bee or wasp before? If you have, and you didn't develop a reaction beyond the usual bee/wasp-sting reactions then, I wouldn't worry about it.

Shortly after the sting, I learned from a quick web search that allergic reactions can sometimes happens even in people who had previously been stung without an allergic reaction. Thankfully, that didn't happen to me this time.

To answer your question, apparently, as a small child, I once actually stumbled into a wasp nest, though my memories of that are extremely vague. A while later, I think I was stung by a bee, but my memories of that are very vague, too. In the parts of my life where my memories are less vague, I hadn't been stung or bitten by anything before this weekend, unless you count mosquito bites.

Speaking from experience here, quick web searches on medical topics are best avoided. Not unless you want to spend the next few hours contemplating your imminent death :)

Hey, I was careful about not looking at any result, but only at the ones from reputable sources.

Yesterday, our landlady and landlord had to have their dog euthanized. I'd known that dog since I moved in here a bit over ten years ago. I'm not that sad, but somewhat.

Update, because it was in this thread: I passed the Luxembourgish language test. I also got the last document I needed (the Dutch Verklaring Omtrent het Gedrag); now to hopefully apply for citizenship this coming week!

(Only hiccup might be if the Dutch police clearance isn't enough in English for their liking, but it was fine for the Immigration office...)

Congrats, and I hope your application proceeds without too many bureaucratic hurdles.

It was accidental! I'm not aware of the reference.

I finally got around to starting something that I should have started three months ago. I'm happy that I started it, but unhappy that it took me three months.

Was it bad or wrong of me to handle the latest instance of what appeared to be a spam call from my own phone company by responding with a very quick, very curt "I don't have time right now" and then hanging up before the caller had time to respond?

Why would this be bad or wrong? Spam is spam and spammers need not be given the time of the day.

Well, it's my actual phone company rather than someone selling vitamin pills to make me live to 150 or something.
