Just arrived on holiday, and laptop shone its last.

It's about half past four in the morning in my time zone, I woke up at about four, and judging from how awake I feel right now, I probably won't get any sleep any more this night.

In this case, fortunately after I'd backed everything up. The thing had been tottering for a couple of months and I now have the happy choice of getting it mended or buying a new one.

I think I may need to turn away from watching politics and current events for the sake of my mental health. Continuing reading about this stuff is upsetting me to the point of crying, and I find myself wanting to skip to the part where the USA is democratic again - and I'm not even 100% sure that part's gonna happen, which doesn't help a bit.

Don't get me wrong: I know what's going on isn't OK, and I'll do my best to help others resist. It's just, this watching of politics is doing me more harm than good, and I know it.

No argument here. I am permanently stuck in the depression stage of grief. Part of me still hopes that I am simply having a bad dream and will soon jolt awake.

Vent: After about three months, the (LU) tax office gets back to me and says that my file is incomplete, asking for a set of documents... that I already provided them. And for others that are probably challenging to get, because they relate to my health insurance back in the Netherlands. And without any indication about how to provide them with the documents! Either way, probably will need to visit them next week to hand-deliver them and make sure they get the documents...

Apparently the wood of the cupboard in our kitchen that, among other things, contains our fridge, is partially rotten. This might get complicated. I just hope it doesn't get expensive.

I think the relative of our landlady and landlord whom they asked to look after their dog while they're on vacation might be neglecting his task.

I started two threads about topics I find interesting, and both have been taken over by only tangentially related arguments running in circles.

I'm sorry. I recommend posting questions about the original topics in the thread.

Trivial vent: I posted a long, detailed, generally friendly review of a book I like at an online bookstore (not Amazon, but still commercial). In order to make it readable, I divided it into a number of paragraphs. Well, after a short time in the moderation queue, they published it, but took out the paragraph breaks, leaving the review as one big long ugly wall of text.

Damn it, I completely forgot that one of my shows was airing today and missed it. Unfortunately I have no other way to watch it since that would require me to sign up for a streaming service. So tired of being too poor for luxuries. I realize that hardly matters in the grand scheme of things, but the overwhelming austerity of my life really does grind on me. I work over twelve hours a day and eat literal gruel for breakfast all while never playing video games, going on vacation, or whatever else.

I completely neglected the fact that GPIO's on the RP2040 and RP2350 default to internal pull-down, while I2C requires internal pull-ups. This broke I2C for a user of mine, and I had completely missed this previously because A) I was using sufficiently powerful external pull-downs (4K7 ohm resistors) such that they overpowered the internal pull-downs and B) I have been doing much of my work on the RP2350, where internal pull-downs are broken anyways. As a result I am putting together a whole new release just to resolve this one issue, which will probably take a couple hours at least.
