Linguoboy wrote: Wed Sep 21, 2022 10:14 am It bothers me that the German expansion of their name on their Wikipedia page is grammatically wrong. (I'd correct it, but it's taken directly from the band's own history page.)
I've long gotten over the fact that Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid is both grammatically incorrect German and does not translate to the band's own translation of the name, i.e. as "no pity for the majority".
Just swap "Mehrheit" and "Mitleid" and everything would be fixed!

I swear they're doing it just to annoy me.

Yesterday there was a rally right outside my place of work for the graduate student workers' unionising campaign. They're motivated and propelled by righteous indignation and I really hope they succeed this time. It's nothing short of disgraceful to hear about the conditions many of them labour under and they minced no words saying as much. One of the speakers quoted Eugene V. Debs, Rage Against the Machine, and Leonard Cohen, in that order, and had us all yelling "FUCK YOU!" at the administration. That was so very cathartic.

After nine (!) months, I finally got my tax refund check for my 2012 tax return! Just have to figure out how to deposit it (I have options), but at least that's one thing finally taken care of.
Also getting some nice stuff going in the lab, which feels good...

Two of my favorite bands dropped new releases within three days or so of each other.

I have someone who's really using zeptoforth for a project, rather than just glancing at it momentarily. And of course, in the process they came across a number of bugs, which I have since fixed, but I would not have caught these bugs otherwise - and users finding bugs is infinitely better than no users at all.

Now *that* is progress, and I'm jealous!

I’m off to Chicago for a friend’s wedding, and will get to see a bunch of people I haven’t had the chance to see since before the pandemic!

Finally got lucky with grant applications, so now my stay in the Netherlands is guaranteed to be extended at least by another seven months! (Still waiting to hear about one other before signing the paperwork to confirm the extension: I can only extend my contract one more time, so let's see if it's for 7 or for 14 months.)

My doctor adjusted my psych meds and now I actually feel energetic and like doing things again.

Also, I am now not always nauseated by the thought of eating.

Good to hear! (Personally, it's always quite bothersome — and kinda alarming — when I really, really don't want to eat.)

Thank you!

We were terrified (my cancer risk is elevated due to medical things), but my blood work came back normal.
