This evening I experienced at first hand what happens when a cloud comes between the Sun and the Earth!¹

¹For the baffled: we nominally had a partial solar eclipse today, but we went one better.

Funny, I heard that conditions were better in Edinburgh than they were here in Glasgow…

(Though I still got to see everything get dark and then go back to day. I guess that was cool in itself.)

It was touch and go for us, but the skies thankfully cleared before the eclipse got very eclipsey, so I got a lovely view, much better than 2015¹². The sun became so thin it was more of an arc than a crescent³,

★★★★☆, would see again⁴

¹ It was cloudy, and only reached 80something% coverage, so my experience was much like alice's this time
² I'm too young for 1999
³ I'd share photos, but my brother took them and hasn't shared them yet. I'm sure the internet at large will have many.
⁴ Too bad the next half decent one's in 2081

Edit: “all lowercase,” thanks alice & bradrn

We were lucky last night, we got a very nice view, no cloud coverage and close to 95% totality.

I'm not: that one was totality where I was. :P (I am too young to remember the one in Hawai'i in July 1991, though...)

That said, I didn't go outside to see it because I hate people (and everybody went out to see it, plus I still remember the one from 1999, so...), but I saw a lot of photos from others closer to the climax. Big thing I noticed from my apartment, though, was the sky darkening much earlier than usual.

@bradrn: it got darkish here too, but there was neither enough light nor non-cloud cover for any of the traditional methods to work.

Earlier (technically yesterday but only because it’s 1:10 AM here) most of the drum set was successfully delivered and received! So far, seems so good. The seller also looks like they included complementary bags, which was an unexpected but greatly appreciated touch. I also received the drum heads I’d ordered.

Last week I got my 10”x6” snare to work. I bought it some years ago after randomly coming across it on Reverb (I think) but had never really used it. It’s pretty much perfect for a specific gigging use case.

Thanks all!

The remaining drum shells arrived today. Right now there’s a few bits of hardware still on the post. This kit is a bit of a fixer-upper and I’m looking forward to building it out over the next few months. If I can get the new drums completed, I can then stow the Crystal Ship (my intended gig kit) and have it ready to simply grab and go whilst still having this new set to practice on.

Provisionally I’m thinking of naming this new one “the Z-Machine”.

There is a lunar eclipse tonight, just about at its peak. Not sure where else it's visible but I can see it from the St Louis area at least.

Cool! It was visible in the morning in France, but the sky was really cloudy.
