So, I've finally decided to break out of my comfort zone and explore the exciting new world of social media. I am told that the "Tick Tock" is currently the "thing" amongst the youth of today, but I do not yet feel ready to jump straight into such lunacy. I have instead decided to start about eight years ago with Twitter and Instagram instead (Tumblr is for porn and we all know it).

My handle on both is @txakori - I need people to follow. If you're on either platform and would be happy for me to follow you, please reply below. If you have recommendations of people to follow, again let me know below!

tl;dr - share your social media accounts below so other zbbers can stalk you.

You did hear about the Great Porn Purge on Tumblr, right? Or are people still putting porn on there regardless, which I haven't heard about since I don't go there.

Actually, from looking around the Interwebs for a bit, it seems that Tumblr is now dead as a dodo.

It's all on Twitter nowadays (which still isn't reason enough for me to dive into that cesspool, not as long as I still have my Pornhubbies).

The story of Tumblr is a tragic one. Apple doesn't want questionable content on the Apple Store, and Tumblr was flagged because some users might have been posting content that violated the EUA (i.e. jailbait, probably). In order to prove to Apple that they were and would continue to be legit, Tumblr banned all adult content from the site. Maybe they felt that was the only way they could ensure that illegal or unethical content stayed off the site. But something like 20% of Tumblr users at the time admitted to primarily using the site for NSFW content, and another 30% used the site for such content at least sometimes. Another 50% of Tumblr users lied on a survey. So removing adult content basically meant that Tumblr lost the lion's share of its user base. What's even sadder is that Tumblr had been a haven for LGBT erotica, and other types of adult content that didn't have a large presence elsewhere except on niche websites. So one of the internet's largest platforms for queer erotica committed seppuku to please a corporation that we have tacitly allowed to dictate our media consumption. The future is fucking awful.

Anyway, Dewrad, since you're a good cook you should focus on instagram food porn. Guaranteed followers.

Social media are divided into three types: American Psyops, Chinese Psyops, Other (VKontakte [Russian Psyop], Tumblr [???], various FOSS things with no userbase)

through extensive personal experimentation with this form of drug i have concluded that one is better off sticking to traditional psychoactive substances

Furthermore, Tumblr instituted an algorithm to detect NSFW content and, surprise surprise, the algorithm was less than accurate, with large quantities of perfectly SFW content also being flagged as NSFW...

Has Twitter ever had any redeeming qualities?

My guess is that sites like DeviantArt, Tumblr, etc had problems with porn because some, if not most, users are uploading drawings, not photos ... and an AI might have a very difficult time telling apart a "safe" drawing from an unsafe one. That wouldnt be *quite* so bad on its own, but DeviantArt at least has a large overlap with the fantasy community, which means artists may be uploading drawings of elves, and since elves are often depicted without body hair, we have a problem here .... what exactly is the difference between a drawing of an adult male elf and a drawing of a human boy?

I dont think its so much that Tumblr hates porn, as that they are better off without having to constantly worry if something is "good porn" or "bad porn" based on squishy definitions like whether this drawing is really of an elf or not. The only safe response is just to prohibit depictions of nudity altogether.

That said, Im not sure how DeviantArt handles the problem ... this is all just a hunch, and perhaps DeviantArt has specific rules set in place saying that e.g. all drawings of nudes must be of clearly adult human form.

Nobody drags garbage people in the media like Black Twitter. Fortunately, I don't have to create an account to follow this.

I only really use Twitter for following conlanging stuff and occasionally tweeting about it. @Jonlang_.

Twitter is a minefield of competing factions tearing each others' members up over beefs. The corner I am familiar with consists of several types of intellectual, grifter-as-intellectual and several types of generalist too sui generis to classify as academic, grifter, popularizer etc.

An issue on Twitter is revealed preference falsification: that is people's actual preferences are coded through likes, DM messages and responses to conveiently deleted OPs, making it impossible to tell. This gets annoying once half of your followerbase turns out to admire Curtis Yarvin or whathaveyou a bit too much

We have a new user?

Initial post to complain about a social media platform, and 78 days after the last post. That checks out.

Nah, I’m almost certain Nachtswalbe isn’t Bob: the writing style is almost completely different, the incessant self-praise and tangential ramblings are missing from his posts, and the posts themselves are concise, on-topic and relevant. And on the off-chance he actually is Bob, well in that case… keep it up, I’d be happy for Bob to participate if he could write posts like that!

(Oh, and by all accounts Bob’s been posting to various conlanging groups for a while, so I’m not terribly surprised that Nachtswalbe is aware of him. Especially since the ensuing discussion is still on the front page of Ephemera!)
