Re: Soshul meedja.
If we're going to invent silly dystopian pandora box machines, why not a time machine to prevent the invention of them? But that could easily go wrong in the wrong hands. Because the invention of time machines is probably a lot less likely to be possible than the invention of those pandora box mach...

Re: Soshul meedja.
One problem with these pandora box ais that Italy has thankfully banned is the ecological impact. The resources for the robots need to come from somewhere. And we're already way overusing the resources of the planet we need to survive as it is. We'd be better off making lista of jobs only robots can...

Sure, some of the largest corporations are government-owned. More than that... The French government regulated a fair amount of cultivars to extinction (well, close to extinction; things are a lot better now, the scientific consensus recognizes the value of variety). That was in metropolitan France...

Hey Reunion, you know when Sempai says you're the metropole not the periphery, he's lying to you, right? I don't know Sempai but of course Réunion is the periphery and not the metropole. Otherwise, you'd all be eating kari shoushou and gato patate. My point is that Reunion being forced to eat Globu...

It's more about following whatever the megacorps want you to like because they get ill-gotten money out of it. But how does a type of food become favored by "the megacorps" in the first place? I don't think the desires of a lot of people are quite as irrelevant for that as you seem to thi...

I don't think it's necessarily about eating what we want when we want because here in Réunion the actual ingredients in many people's diets seem less varied these days: burger, pizza (and other variants of wheat, tomato, cheese) v various actual individual species of taro, manioc, various species I...

I’m done with dating and romance. It only ever leads to failure, and thence heartache, for me. Success does not necessarily come the ifrst time in anything. Considering you mention heartache and not disinterest, it seems you would actually like dating and romance, if successful. Which kind of partn...

On the other hand, being able to eat what we want when we want is right up there with not calling a priest every time we cut our finger as one of the great advancements of the modern world. It makes perfect sense that people don't want to give that up. The traditional northern European diet of boil...

Minor-ish vents all around. (1) I'm at a point where I'm thinking it might be a good idea to upgrade a number of my electronics: for example, some of my things are showing their age (eg. my Nintendo Switch, which I've had and used very extensively for three years, but showing some issues with espec...

I wonder about a connection between the Semitic substratum theory and British Israelism , though Wikipedia does not mention such a connection. In any case, long before Britism Israelites, there was already Goídel Glas , legendary ancestor of the Gaels, descendant of Scyths. And his mother, Scota, a...

Pretty funny coincidence; I picked up The Sopranos on DVD recently. (I wanted to re-watch the show, they had it at the library and it's not available on streaming.) And I have getting Heroes out the library (Tim Kring, not Stephen Fry). My long suffering better half and I have been (re-)watching th...

Aitken's 7th vowel is still [ø] in the Shetlands so that's proof enough.
/ø/ is though used to be misused for Scottish Gaelic. And [ɘ] is a common realisation of /ɪ/ in Scots.

Good point. I can't even get my head around Lexibank: https://github.com/lexibank/lexibank-analysed/. THere is this I managed to get to, but they admit they excluded Continental Celtic which screws their model. https://language.cs.auckland.ac.nz/
