Re: Secret Conlang for Spies

I used to hear German initial /ts/ as [s], distinguished from German initial /z/ by voicing alone.

Re: Secret Conlang for Spies

Actually, the conbination of English, Hebrew, and Romance speakers should specify a single stop series of /p t k/ because English-speakers often hear initial, stressed onset, and final [p t k] as /b d g/ due to English /p t k/ being aspirated initially and at the start of stressed onsets and preglot...

Re: Conlang fluency thread

All in all, Early Middle Laqar verb conjugation involves a fuckload of different forms (mind you that those tables do not involve any nominalizations beyond the gerund or any voices other than the default), and the sound changes that produced those forms and how they interact can be quite complicate...

Has anyone here heard centralization of /oʊ/ in the Upper Midwest? Re: The "How Do You Pronounce X" Thread

The pronunciation [ˈfɒo̯kn̩(ː)]~[ˈfɒo̯kɘ̃(ː)(n)], i.e. with /ɔːl/, is more natural for me than the pronunciation with [ˈfɛɤ̯kn̩(ː)]~[ˈfɛɤ̯kɘ̃(ː)(n)], i.e. with /æl/, and since I picked up the word from reading it rather than from hearing it I naturally opted for the former pronunciation - I only rea...

Nobody said that. Methru just said he doesn't like it, and let's be real, a modern auxlang really should reflect modern liberal mores. About auxlangs, one thing that should be remembered is that language features do not in practice make a society more or less liberal; the modern Anglosphere and Ger...

I can definitely see making a creole based on Romanian with Slavic, Hungarian, German, and French (there was a period in which borrowing from French to Romanian was all the rage) elements as well.
