Re: Star Trek (spoilers are likely)

The first trek I watched in its entirety was DS9, and I absolutely loved it. I've tried watching TNG but I'm not a fan of the monster-of-the-week structure (it's great for watching random reruns, but not suited for bingeing). I watched Picard and Discovery, and appreciated having a season-long plot,...

Re: Innovative Usage Thread

I think the wording I'd produce naturally would be something like "My wife and my's X" or "My wife and mine's X", which looks totally ungrammatical to me written out, but when I say it aloud it feels natural.

I can't speak to German, but I had a similar experience when I was briefly attempting to learn Swedish — pretty much every audio sample of Swedish /e/ I heard sounded more like to me.

Flash drive or thumb drive (but it's been years since I've regularly used one, thanks to improvements in the speed and convenience of sending files over the internet)

I don't think of "burning CDs" as metaphorical at all — the CD burner uses a laser to activate heat-sensitive dyes in the disk.

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

I'm about to start DMing a D&D game on Tuesday. On the one hand, I'm really excited, but on the other hand, this is basically the first time ever that I've DM'd (apart from a couple sessions when I was in middle school), so I'm afraid I'll do a bad job of running the game. In college, I spent so...

I love the smell of coffee, find the taste alright, but my stomach disagrees with the caffeine content (or maybe something else; decaf still makes me feel sick, but to a lesser extent than regular) Fortunately, black tea is sufficiently caffeinated to give me a productivity boost without making me f...

Re: Dream sharing thread

A couple nights ago, I had a dream in which there was a real place and/or people called Catan (like the board game), and their wikipedia article linked to another article, about their language. The native name for the language started with the phoneme /ʰd͜b/‍ — a pre-aspirated voiced alveolo-labial ...

Not only does it have 7 nouns in a row in its intended parsing, the main verb also looks like a noun, making it look like a preposition followed by nine nouns.
