Re: River transport in Eretald

OK, here are a few bits of eye-candy that are helping me think about river transport. I traced them from zomp's 'huge' map of Eretald , more as a form of meditation than anything else. I got as far as coastlines and rivers. It occurred to me that these resemble maps of river basins from various Eart...

Re: Almeomusica

Through a thick veil of tooth pain... Just an update on where I am with all this: Diary of Kaidan Žambey I want to retrofit a number of details: e.g. the way the barge operates, which necessitates a bit of a rewrite across the board, but I’m not planning on actually doing this at the moment. If you'...

Re: River transport in Eretald

A quick question for zompist: the Eärdur is said to be 3km wide at Pelym and needs to be crossed by ferry. Only 20km upriver, at Anaseri, there is a bridge (by 3480). I'm curious about this bridge ‒ when does it date from? Does the river narrow a lot here (which surely would make a bridge with arch...

Re: Resources Thread

I would like to share a project of mine: palasimi . It's a website with graphs of colexified concepts, similar to those in CLICS and A Conlanger's Thesaurus. It doesn't quite have as much linguistic information as CLICS, but every concept in palasimi is annotated with a short description, which I h...

Re: Modern Verdurian

Ah, thank you! Ok, that works, and I like that it's levelled with the present in MV (I think?)! Yep. I always enjoy ruining a paradigm with a handful of sound changes. :) Haha, yeah. So, on that note, I'm curious what might happen to this fun pair (semantically) when they merge (phonetically): raná...

Very similar quick question re imyasnen : is the past imyasnnai , imyasnai (same as present) or imyasninai ? Or something else? (Mainly asking for EMV, but curious how they develop too.) imyasnnai . (I'm not sure where you'd find -ni... did I suggest that somewhere?) MV ĩyasnáy . Ah, thank you! Ok,...

Re: Saepes Mundi

I find this really interesting and I'm glad you revived the project. I like the way you've worked out the infrastructure of otherwise tropey features like enornous storage capacity and fast travel. The lack of this infrastructure usually breaks the illusion in games for me, but I feel I could really...

Re: What have you accomplished today?

Not 100% sure this is the right thread for it… but further on my explorations of writing systems, I made myself a bamboo pen: https://bradrn.com/images/verd/bamboo-pen.jpg It’s actually surprisingly easy — I highly recommend giving it a go if you have any bamboo near you. (Or reeds, which are the m...

So cometát celošië

https://teoppeoq.files.wordpress.com/2024/02/so_cometat_celosie.jpg So cometát celošië (‘the joining of intervals’), or just so cometát in a musical context, is a part of the wider Eretaldan musical pedagogical tradition. Similar to solfège and the Indian saregama syllables, it embodies a tradition...

Re: Almeomusica

I don't know enough about either Verdurian or music to understand this, but it sure looks great! Thank you, Raphael! I will do something to explain this more fully at some point – it will probably come as part of an article on tuning and temperament in Eretald. Your encouragement is very much appre...

So Siiru Comefië

Ok, this became pretty cool in the end. I like this diagram, if I do say so myself. It’s probably an early modern continuation of the medieval Wheel of Music idea, and is used in the development of cyclic even temperament, whose Almean history I would like to get closer to developing with clarity. h...

I like the Wheel of Music. So do I. But it would be cooler if the note-letters were arranged according to the circle of fifths. Thanks both! So Siiru Alaďee

A bit of Verdurian musical iconography: this is So Siiru Alaďee , the ‘Wheel of Music’. https://teoppeoq.files.wordpress.com/2024/02/so_siiru_aladhee.jpg?w=1000 At the centre is a ligature of the letters A, L, Ď, and E, which I am proposing as a symbol for music in general, perhaps as recognisable o...

I also did this. https://teoppeoq.files.wordpress.com/2024/02/so_sesue_sariley_under_sail.jpg?w=2046 I’m not a sailor or someone who knows much about sailing. This double lateen rig was inspired by two things: zomp’s drawings of the corona, and the rig of the 18th century Russian double boat. It has...
