Re: Almeomusica

Just to mention that I’ve had a chest infection and been too busy IRL but will post some updates soon. Thanks zomp for the roundup of new musical vocab - I like the Kebreni calques!

Re: "Experiencer"

Verdurian was my first published conlang and there's much I don't like about it. It was thoroughly revised once but it's too late to do it again. (Also there is an in-universe, or in-multiverse, reason for the similarities.) I’ve been doing the nuts and bolts work of learning Verdurian recently ‒ l...

Re: Verdurian grammar questions

Great, thank you! Technically yes, but I should add some rules for blatant reborrowings from Caďinor. Caď. EIO is just pronounced like -eo. That's more or less the situation I figured. Adding those rules wouldn't hurt, but my instinct was just to pronounce it that way anyway. There are other cases t...

Re: Kio e soa alaďea?

I can say Kio e ca ? Really? (I suppose stuff on either side of esan doesn’t have to agree in number... Is this why?) The verb can't agree with both. :) It's always correct to agree with the subject, in this case kio . I'd accept Kio eu ca , as you can always reverse the arguments of esan . Thank y...

Re: Modern Verdurian

Came upon a rather intriguing Modern Verdurian term in the dictionary today: Akalmea (as an example of an otherworld).

I presume this constitutes spoilers, but just want to register excitement. (It's also possible I've missed this, or it's actually an old term.)

Re: Verdurian grammar questions

While we're at it, just want to double check re iscreniy ‒ is the <y> just the orthographic variant of <i> for masculine nouns, or a consonant? And consequently where is the stress? The following would suggest it’s on the -e- : do not count y (ŽA-ney) unless it’s the only vowel (ver-DU-ry). (I’m cur...

Re: Kio e soa alaďea?

Thank you so much! I overlooked a lot! Often when I’ve edited stuff, I’ve forgotten that I’ve changed the number of the subject, or somesuch... Good job! Here are some corrections/suggestions. Kio e soa alaďea? Ktëi peržane? - I forget this all the time too, but žanen is irregular, so it should be p...

In that case you stress the first lenge: u-CÖR-ti-ë.
Ok, great, thank you!

Kio e soa alaďea?

Perhaps a draft of the first bits of an inworld text ‒ though I’m not sure what, by whom or when written. I haven’t thought through the philosophy much at all, so perhaps this is just writing practice, which has, at least, been useful to hone my grasp of the semantic field in Verdurian. Please do qu...

Re: Verdurian grammar questions

Thanks! Very helpful. 1. Yes, use singular verbs. If you're referring to people, try to use ca instead. I’m struggling to remember what exactly I was confused about right now, but I’ll read over what I was trying to write and post an example sentence tomorrow just to check I understand this fully. 2...

Verdurian grammar questions

Two Verdurian questions to check: 1) For plural referents, do we use singular forms of kio , eto , tot ? Or do I use indefinite pronouns (for the latter)? Sorry if the answer is somehow obvious! 2) Where does stress fall in words that have i or u in penultimate position (and no stress marking)? E.g....

Re: The Founding of the Court of Storms

Soon the clans turned to burning the forests to expand their power except for a select few too heavily guarded by Beastfolk and protected by great magics to burn. This was done to expand their power as other avenues of expansion were tightly controlled by the royal family. As such clans near much v...

Re: Reincarnation

Ah, right. The idea is that the unborn exist in Išária-- it's not reincarnation. It should probably be taken as poetic license, as it provides a way to throw later history into a story set in mythic time. I see. I guess my curiosity came from noticing that Kolleiva’s adult soul appears to have been...

Re: Experiments in Verdurian lettering

I'm tempted to try to come up with a doctor's handwriting. :) That is, something so fast as to be nearly unreadable... Here’s my very best doctor’s (well, journalist’s) handwriting — finally, a style I’m really good at! https://i.imgur.com/QoaLB9m.jpg I found it interesting how much of this I could...

Re: Reincarnation

Quick question: since the unborn can exist first in Išária, then be born to earthly women, is there any element of reincarnation in Caďin paganism? (Or for that matter, elsewhere in Almea?) Forgot this question... can you refresh my memory where I said that? :) Couldn't find it via Google. Reincarn...

Re: Almeomusica

A bit more reply: All this is extremely ambitious, but I look forward to seeing and hearing it! Don't worry about asking questions... a narrative is a great way to find gaps in conworlding. Maybe I need an expanded "Traveler's Guide" sort of thing to work out more details of everyday life...

Turns out I've used both, so both spellings are canonical. :P

future Žambeys of musical importance include Claimëra Poncörei Žambey, one of the first Eretaldan women to establish widespread fame as a classical composer Lots of exciting stuff here, but I have to get to bed. :) However, I wanted to point out that her surname would be Žambeya.
