Re: Research on the religion of the islands of Lilliput and Blefuscu

This is really fun and I'm looking forward to reading more! Thanks to the funders for generously making this possible. Glad you're enjoying it! The current research is focusing on the colleges of monks and we have elucidated many interesting details about them. I have begun to draft a post on this ...

Re: Research on the religion of the islands of Lilliput and Blefuscu

I am enjoying this so far; the overall flavor reminds me of what I have heard about ancient Roman religion. This says it better than I would; I am enjoying this, and it does remind of Roan religion slightly. I am eagerly awaiting new research on the origin and nature of the little-/big-endian schis...

I am enjoying this so far; the overall flavor reminds me of what I have heard about ancient Roman religion. Thanks! Sounds fun and interesting! I especially like the list of grant-givers. Thanks! Somehow I am amused by the idea of funding for this 'research'. The list of funders sounds very much li...

Re: Research on the religion of the islands of Lilliput and Blefuscu

Overview The religious system of the tiny people is largely divided into two broad and separate spheres, the royal rites and the popular rites. Each focuses on different gods, has different purposes, serves different justifications, although there is some institutional overlap in the form of the co...

I will be using the thread at the link above as my base of operations for publicizing details of the religion I am developing.

Re: Research on the religion of the islands of Lilliput and Blefuscu

Meta This thread is intended to serve as a public presentation of a religion I am creating after having read Zompist's religion construction kit and certain other items. I am am primarily interested in developing the religion qua the religion, and am using the setting mentioned in the first post la...

Research on the religion of the islands of Lilliput and Blefuscu

Scientists, scholars, and others have taken a great interest in the islands of the tiny people since their discovery near the beginning of the 18th century. An influential volume written by the individual who first made contact with them was published in 1726 1 , and has been dominant in views of th...

Re: Religion Construction Kit

I've received and finished reading this book. One of the items (randomizing elements of a religion) was posted on the patreon page a while ago, and I remember rolling dice to generate answers for it. Once I can figure out where my copy of my answers is, I am hoping to develop it further and post abo...

If you're on a plane which crashes, that is catastrophic, but hopefully you can put on your oxygen mask and then help your fellow passengers.

Re: Another Conreligion of Mine – 5 plus 4

Now, to be sure, you can have a religion with only belief. (Protestanism is a living example of it, though I feel that Unitarian Universalism may be closest to what is described here.) Interestingly (to me at least), my general sense is that most Unitarian Universalists have a set of specific belie...

Re: religion in Maraille

New question, unrelated to religion but I’ll stick it here since it involves Maraille. Do the two continents know about each other and interact at all? I keep being busy/whatever whenever I think about using Maraille as an RPG setting but I generate ideas from time to time and this question occurred...

Re: Random Thread

Random serious question: How has the Catholic Church in the USA traditionally handled the fact that in that country, there were Catholics of different ethnic backgrounds, sometimes living closely together? Were there ever separate churches for, say, Irish, Italians, and Poles? I mean, aside from th...

Re: religion in Maraille

Drifting away from Maraille particularly... has Zo Thought been developed in any particular way, beyond being the thing that induced the population of Homeland not to be overly Ayn Randian at each other? I've always hazily envisioned it as being one of those things, like Buddhism or Confucianism, wh...

Re: religion in Maraille

Always fun to get an Incatena question. :) Still, be aware that that page is a lightly updated version of notes made 30 years ago for an RPG that never came together. If I ever decided to revisit Maraille for an Incatena story, I reserve the right to change stuff. And if anyone wants to actually us...

religion in Maraille

Hodgepodge of random questions here. What do Catholics of Maraille do regarding the Pope? Is he taken seriously, considered some sort of distant semi-metaphorical figure, ignored, forgotten, something else? The nature of the papacy, viewed from a perspective that doesn't adhere to the dogma of the C...

Re: British Politics Guide

The Cabinet Manual has a few interesting comments although I didn't notice that it specifically says when a prime minister's resignation ordinarily takes effect, which seems relevant in any circumstance to which the question applies. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system...
