Re: My new conworlding project and what inspired it.

My point is that there are well-recognised names for the combinations ‘P-Celtic+Q-Celtic+Latin’ and ‘Old Norse+Old English+Gothic’, which would be a lot easier to understand than ‘PQL’ and ‘NEG’. Why not just call them something like ‘pseudo–Italo-Celtic‘ and ‘pseudo-Germanic’? I think it helps not...

Re: Frequent Mistake's in diver's Language's

The verbal endings -er (infinitive), -é (past participle), -ez (second person plural in some tenses) in French, all pronounced /e/, are confused waaaay too often, mainly in favour of the first ending.

Also, there's a neat introduction specifically for conlangers here.

A mythology for England Wales.

It's great! Are you going to produce "feelies" for it such as the aforementioned flower-cards?

Re: We have no Priests, but we have non-Priests

Is it his fault that gods were later adopted as boddisatvas and Buddhas? That'd be like calling Christianity polytheistic only because it turned gods into saints. Related: a Haredi Jew told me once that she couldn't enter churches because it counts as a polytheistic place of worship (mosques are fi...

Re: Conlang Random Thread

For one old project, I called "t=n" each generation, understood as a span of thirty years. Then I divided my list of sound changes into groups of 12-to-20 linear rules, called "t=n to t=n+x", where x is a number between seven and ten. The limit between each period corresponded to...

It is my understanding that only those Elves of Vanyarin descent were blondes, and they were a minuscule portion of the Exiles. Nearly all full-blooded Vanyar were content to remain in Valinor and few were ever seen in Middle-earth Noldor with blond hair included Finarfin and descendents (among them...

How is a typical lexicon entry formatted?

I'd like to get a booster shot soon-ish (I regularly visit my parents in the hospital; in any case I don't have the time for even mild symptoms) but there's apparently no way to get one. That's seriously annoying. No way before the end of the year because of the rush towards appointments, or no way...

Re: Do you use a database for your conlang project?

I tried PolyGlot once but it was four years ago. At the time I was tinkering with an etymological dictionary and the software wasn't up to the task. There was also a problem with the display of Cyrillic letters. But I told the developer and now that I see it's still up and running... I will give it ...

It should work a lot like whistling, I think, variation of pitch, rhythm and loudness.

The question is, is it acoustically perceptible enough (a big difference with whistling).

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

I have a sound change whereby onset clusters of voiceless obstruent + stop give an aspirated stop, for example: spin => pʰin pdam => tʰam tt͡ʃel => t͡ʃʰel So far so good. But I want a similar rule for onset clusters consisting of two voiced obstruents, such that the result be a voiced aspirate (or b...

I also use Toolbox, only for dictionaries and texts though. When I was a Mac user, I managed to run it with Wine, then 10.15 Catalina broke all Wine support. SIL has another, more supported tool oriented towards fieldwork; this goal translates well to those of conlangers (documenting a language 'on ...

Got the second jab as of today, but was told a serological test should be done in six months to see if there are still enough antibodies. These are the new instructions by the French government. Well, at least by then we'll be swimming in vaccine doses if a third jab is needed.

Re: Sound Change Quickie Thread

Common Slavic stress wasn't weight-based, more lexical, but it was nevertheless regularized in the penult in Polish and the initial in Czech. For the latter it may be from Germanic influence.
