Re: Conlang Conference

Non-academia conlangers are invited to present posters about their own creations. Are you involved in planning this conference too? I got the impression that it’s specifically for research about conlangs and conlanging, rather than presenting the conlangs themselves (which, after all, would be of l...

(I am crafting two proposals, will see what sticks).

Iroquoian

Beginning to add the Iroquoian changes from Julian's A History of the Iroquoian languages (University of Manitoba 2010), they were already collected in the old Index but it shouldn't hurt to compile them again from the source . On page 13 Julian says "my model of subgrouping, in particular my p...

Bantu

So far, I've added a whole chapter on sound changes from Common Bantu (a theoretical construct not exactly 1:1 with Proto-Bantu) to Otjiherero, from Möhlig, W. J. G., A Reference grammar of Herero , Rüdiger Köppe Verlag, 2008. Transcribing that, I came into the issue of representing tonal change on ...

Being relatively new at git and not using Brassica at all, I had some difficulties, but I hope the process will become a second habit to me.

It would be good to document explicitly how many stars to award to the "consensus", "detail", etc. features.

Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay? RESULTS POSTED

A bit embarrassed that no native speaker of English went after my torch to 'clear up' that somewhat stiff translation. A new relay would be grand! I thought the original text had to do with The Wizard of Oz , I really thought I recognised phonetically adapted forms of 'Dorothy (from) Kansas' and 'Mu...

We may not become direct targets of nuclear attacks, but we Europeans are downwind of any possible explosion. At the very least it can ruin future mushroom-picking seasons.

Re: Zevy notes (Now playing: Basic syntax trees)

Something about the manner with which you present this conlang caught my eye since the days of the old ZBB. I'm still not sure exactly what. But I love it. By the way, here and on the wordbook, there's a misordering of the first two words of the last line of this gloss: ❓ Ateva hat mu, deu hi me? --...

Torch received. Given various work-related variables, I think it should be done about end of next week.

Re: Help designing an SCA, some edge cases

By default, a group of rules in Lexurgy is applied on all segments of the word at once, giving as results exactly what Emily wants:
  1. nenena
  2. aee
  3. aeaea
  4. eee
  5. eee
  6. eaa

I had a similar notion after playing Paradox games, ever since the beginning of the Almea+400 project... and to see someone has actually set to the task! I heartily encourage you in that direction.

Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay? STARTING 1 APRIL

I’ve been thinking it would be interesting to collect all the torches and distribute them publicly after the relay ends. I know I’d be interested in seeing grammatical information for some of these languages! That's usually how relays are concluded in my experience - with a public presentation of e...

I will be using Dyelog. The master grammar is advanced enough that I'll be able to easily select specific extracts for my torch package.

Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay?

In my experience for the relays at the Language Creation Conference, delay was two to three days for each link and the time-consuming part wasn't learning and deciphering the previous text, but formatting a grammar primer for the next participant including enough of the necessary bits for translatin...
